Best Time to Visit Himachal Pradesh: A Season Guide
· 1 min read · By Tripsiana Team

Himachal works in every season, but the right month depends on whether you want snow, green meadows or the remote high valleys. Here is the honest, season-by-season guide to the best time to visit Himachal Pradesh.
Summer (March to June): Peak Season
The most popular window. Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Kasol are pleasant at 15 to 30°C while the plains bake, and there is still snow to play in at Rohtang and Solang. This is ideal for first-timers and families, but it is also the busiest, so book early.
Monsoon (July to September): Green and Quiet
The hills turn lush and prices drop, but heavy rain brings landslide risk on mountain roads. Importantly, this is the best window for the Spiti Valley, which sits in a rain shadow and is only fully accessible when its passes are open (roughly June to October).
Tip: Avoid the lower hill roads at the peak of the monsoon, but use this window for Spiti, which stays dry and open.
Autumn (October to November): Clear and Crisp
Crowds thin, skies clear and the apple harvest is in. Excellent for the Shimla-Manali circuit, Kinnaur and late-season Spiti before the passes close.
Winter (December to February): Snow Season
For guaranteed snow, this is the time. Shimla, Manali, Kufri and Solang get fresh snowfall, and it is the season for skiing and snow play. Spiti becomes a hardcore winter destination, and Rohtang closes.
Quick Verdict
- Hill stations and snow play: April to June
- Spiti Valley: June to October
- Clear views and fewer crowds: October to November
- Snow and skiing: December to February
