Kashmir is far gentler than Ladakh. Srinagar sits at around 1,585 m and the popular spots like Gulmarg top out near 2,650 m, so altitude sickness is rare. Carry warm layers, as evenings stay cool even in summer.
Gulmarg usually gets its first proper snow by late December, with the best snow and skiing conditions through January and February. The upper Gondola stage to Apharwat Peak holds snow well into April.
