Gulmarg Travel Guide: Gondola, Skiing & Meadows

The Gulmarg Gondola

The gondola runs in two phases: the first to Kongdoori, the second up towards the Apharwat Peak at nearly 4,000 m, with sweeping Himalayan views. It's the star attraction in every season — snow in winter, wildflower meadows in summer.

Skiing & snow

Between roughly January and March, Gulmarg becomes a world-class ski and snowboard destination with powder and gentle beginner slopes alike. Even non-skiers can sledge, build snowmen and ride the gondola.

In warmer months the "meadow of flowers" lives up to its name, with the world's highest golf course, gentle walks and pony rides.

Getting there: Gulmarg is about 50 km (1.5–2 hours) from Srinagar — an easy day trip, though an overnight lets you enjoy the early-morning gondola before the crowds.
