Ladakh Trip Cost: Honest ₹ Budget Guide for Indian Travellers
· 4 min read · By Tripsiana Team

Planning a Ladakh trip and trying to set a realistic budget? The Ladakh trip cost varies widely, a solo backpacker using guesthouses and shared cabs spends very differently from a couple on a customised tour with comfortable hotels and a private vehicle. This guide gives you real ₹ estimates across every budget level, with no hidden assumptions.
Quick Budget Snapshot (Per Person, 7 Days Including Flights from Delhi)
Budget traveller: ₹25,000-35,000, guesthouses, dhabas, shared cabs, basic permits. Mid-range traveller: ₹50,000-70,000, 3-star hotels, café meals, hired taxi circuits. Comfortable traveller: ₹90,000-1,40,000, premium stays, private vehicle, curated experiences.
These are all-in per-person costs. Let us break each component down.
Getting to Leh
Flights (Most Common)
Delhi to Leh takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet run daily services.
Cost: ₹4,000-8,000 one-way if booked 4-6 weeks ahead. Peak season (July-August) or last-minute: ₹10,000-18,000 one-way. Book return tickets early, Leh seats during peak season fill and prices spike fast.
Tip: Leh airport is notorious for afternoon wind delays. Book morning arrivals. Never connect a domestic flight out of Delhi the same afternoon you are landing in Leh, the delayed inbound will cost you the connection.
Road Trip to Leh (Manali or Srinagar)
If you are road-tripping in as part of the experience, budget:
Shared jeep (Manali to Leh, 2 days): ₹2,500-3,500 per seat. Private cab or SUV (Manali to Leh): ₹15,000-22,000 for the vehicle. Self-drive fuel (Manali-Leh, 480 km): ₹5,000-7,500 in a petrol SUV. En-route accommodation (one night at Jispa or Sarchu): ₹800-2,500 per room.
Accommodation in Ladakh
Budget Guesthouses (₹700-2,000 per night)
Family-run guesthouses in Leh's Changspa, Old Town, and Sankar areas. Clean rooms, attached or shared bathrooms, breakfast usually included. Many have small gardens and rooftop views. This is the most authentic and best-value way to stay.
Mid-Range Hotels (₹2,500-5,000 per night)
Reliable hot water, better furnishings, a small garden or terrace. The Changspa stretch has a good concentration at this level. Breakfast generally included.
Premium and Boutique Stays (₹7,000-20,000 per night)
Properties like The Grand Dragon Ladakh or the camp properties near Thiksey offer high-quality experiences. Luxury glamping camps at Pangong Lake (May-September only) run ₹8,000-15,000 per person per night with meals included.
Homestays (₹1,000-2,500 per night, meals included)
Some of the best-value and most memorable stays in Ladakh. Nubra Valley villages, Turtuk, and Tso Moriri have community homestays where you eat with the family. Book through your Leh guesthouse or a local agent.

Food Costs
Leh has a wide range of dining options.
Dhaba meal (thukpa, dal rice, momos): ₹100-200 Café meal (pasta, sandwich, fresh juice): ₹400-700 Restaurant dinner (multi-course): ₹600-1,200 per person
Budget ₹600-900 per day for three meals at mid-range places; ₹300-450 eating mostly at local dhabas. Outside Leh, in villages and camps, food is usually included in accommodation rates.
Local Transport
Once in Leh, distances are large, Pangong is 5 hours away, Nubra is 3 hours. Transport is often the biggest variable in the budget.
Private Taxi (Leh Taxi Union Fixed Rates)
Taxis are the most flexible option. Common rates for the full vehicle:
Leh to Pangong Tso and back (day trip): ₹5,500-7,500 Leh to Nubra Valley (2 days): ₹8,000-10,000 Full circuit, Pangong + Nubra + Tso Moriri (5-6 days): ₹24,000-32,000
Splitting a taxi 3-4 ways dramatically reduces the per-person cost. Many solo travellers find groups through their guesthouse notice board.
Renting a Bike
Royal Enfield Himalayan or Bullet: ₹1,200-1,800 per day. Scooter/Activa: ₹600-900 per day. Fuel is available in Leh; carry extra when heading into remote areas like Tso Moriri.

Permits
Several areas require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Indian citizens.
Areas requiring ILP: Pangong Tso, Nubra Valley, Tso Moriri, Hanle, Dah-Hanu. Cost: ₹200-400 per area. Apply online at the Ladakh administration portal or in person in Leh (10-minute process). Travel agents charge ₹150-300 as a service fee.
Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit, apply through a registered Ladakh tour operator before travel.
Activities
Most major attractions are free once you get there. A few extras to budget for:
Bactrian camel safari at Hunder (Nubra): ₹500-700 per person Indus-Zanskar river rafting (Nimmu, near Leh): ₹700-1,200 per person ATV quad ride at Hunder dunes: ₹400-600 per person Guided monastery tour (Hemis, Thiksey): ₹500-1,500 per group

Sample 7-Day Budgets
Budget (solo, per person): Flights ₹7,000 + accommodation ₹8,400 (₹1,200/night) + food ₹4,500 + shared cabs ₹5,000 + permits ₹800 + miscellaneous ₹2,000 = approx. ₹28,000
Mid-range (per person in a couple): Flights ₹9,000 + accommodation ₹21,000 (₹3,000/night) + food ₹8,500 + taxi (split with partner) ₹15,000 + activities ₹3,000 + permits ₹800 = approx. ₹57,000

The most common budget overshoot is transport. Private taxis add up quickly, sharing with other travellers or mixing taxis with bike rental days keeps costs in check.
