Trip highlights

  • Cross Hampta Pass at 4,270 m — one of the most dramatic pass crossings in the Indian Himalayas
  • Witness the complete landscape reversal: lush green Kullu Valley on one side, barren Lahaul on the other
  • Camp at Balu Ka Ghera beside a glacial stream at 3,800 m with snow peaks above
  • Optional add-on: Chandratal Lake at 4,270 m — one of the most beautiful camping sites in India
  • A genuine mountain crossing (not just a viewpoint trek) with two completely different worlds on either side
Your journey

Day-by-day itinerary

1

Drive from Manali to Jobra (the trailhead) — about 30 minutes by vehicle. The trek starts at ~2,900 m in the Kullu Valley's meadow zone. The first day is an easy 4–5 km walk through meadow and river-bank trail to Chika camp at approximately 3,100 m. Set up camp, have dinner, and rest for the longer days ahead.

Frequently asked questions

01

March to June is peak season for hill stations like Shimla and Manali, with pleasant weather and snow lingering at Rohtang and Solang. July to September is green but brings monsoon and occasional landslides. October to February is best for snow lovers, with December to February bringing fresh snowfall to Shimla, Manali and Kufri.

02

A Shimla and Manali tour fits comfortably in 6 to 7 days. Kasol and the Parvati Valley need 3 to 4 days, Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj 2 to 3, and the full Spiti circuit needs 8 to 10 days. We tailor the duration to the regions you want to cover.

03

For guaranteed snow, visit December to February when Shimla, Manali, Kufri and Solang Valley get fresh snowfall. Rohtang Pass holds snow for much of the year but stays closed in deep winter. Solang Valley is the most reliable spot for snow play near Manali.

04

Spiti is remote and high-altitude, so it needs more planning than the Shimla-Manali circuit. The roads are rough, altitude sickness is possible, and the season runs roughly May to October when passes are open. We build in acclimatisation and use experienced mountain drivers to keep it safe and comfortable.

05

Most travellers reach by road from Delhi or Chandigarh, with overnight Volvo buses to Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala. Bhuntar (Kullu), Shimla and Gaggal (Kangra) have small airports, and Kalka and Chandigarh are the nearest major railheads, with the scenic toy train running from Kalka to Shimla.

06

A 6 to 7 day Shimla-Manali package typically starts around 11,000 to 18,000 rupees per person on twin sharing, depending on season and hotel category. Offbeat circuits like Spiti cost more due to the terrain and longer duration. We always share a clear, itemised quote up front.

07

Yes. A limited number of permits are issued daily for Rohtang Pass and they must be obtained in advance online. We arrange the permit as part of your package. Note that the pass is closed in winter and the date it opens each year depends on snow clearance.

08

Very much so. Kasol, Tosh, Manali and McLeod Ganj are hugely popular with friends groups and backpackers for their cafes, treks and relaxed vibe. Treks like Triund, Kheerganga and Hampta Pass are favourites. We can plan a budget-friendly, flexible itinerary for groups.

09

Yes. Shimla, Manali, Kufri, Khajjiar and Dalhousie are ideal for families with easy sightseeing and toy train rides, while Manali and the Solang Valley are classic honeymoon favourites. We arrange comfortable stays and a relaxed pace to suit couples and elders alike.

10

The main hill stations are at moderate altitude and rarely cause problems. Higher spots like Rohtang Pass and especially the Spiti circuit reach over 4,000 m, where altitude sickness is possible. For Spiti we plan a gradual gain and rest days to help you acclimatise.

11

Carry warm layers year round, as mountain evenings stay cool even in summer. For winter or snow trips bring heavy woollens, gloves and waterproof shoes. Add a raincoat in monsoon, good walking shoes for treks, sunscreen and any personal medication.
