Frequently asked questions

01

Most first-timers need at least 7-8 days (6 nights based in Leh) to cover the highlights, Pangong Tso, Nubra Valley via Khardung La, and Leh's monasteries. For Tso Moriri or a bike trip via Manali, budget 10-12 days. Rushing under 6 days risks both missing the best spots and underestimating the acclimatisation time your body genuinely needs.

02

Yes, for restricted areas. Indian nationals need a free Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri, and Dah-Hanu. Apply online at lahdcleh.nic.in or at the DC Office in Leh (processed within a few hours). Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) and must travel in a minimum group of two with a registered local agency.

03

Leh city sits at 3,500 m (11,500 ft); mountain passes like Khardung La reach 5,359 m (17,582 ft). Altitude sickness (AMS) is common in first-time visitors, symptoms include headache, nausea, and fatigue. Plan for 2 full rest days in Leh before any long drives, drink 4-5 litres of water daily, avoid alcohol on arrival, and ask your doctor about Diamox. Most people feel fine after 36-48 hours of acclimatisation.

04

By air is the fastest, Kushok Bakula Rimpochhe Airport (IXL) in Leh has daily flights from Delhi (β‰ˆ1 hr), Mumbai (β‰ˆ2.5 hr), and Srinagar (β‰ˆ30 min). By road, the Manali-Leh Highway (475 km, open June-Oct) is the most scenic; the Srinagar-Leh Highway (434 km) opens a bit earlier, usually May. Both road routes take 1-2 days of driving. Many travellers fly in and ride/drive back for the best of both worlds.

05

Budget travellers can cover 7 nights (Delhi flights included) for β‚Ή30,000-β‚Ή45,000 using dorm stays and shared cabs. A comfortable mid-range trip with a private cab and 3-star hotels runs β‚Ή60,000-β‚Ή90,000 per person. Premium packages with curated stays, a guide, and all meals start from β‚Ή1,00,000 per person. Costs vary significantly by departure city, season, group size, and accommodation level.

06

Ladakh is consistently rated one of India's safest regions. Crime is extremely low, the Ladakhi community is warm and welcoming, and tourist infrastructure in Leh is solid. Solo women travellers regularly report feeling very comfortable. Standard precautions apply, share your itinerary with someone at home, avoid driving on mountain passes after dark, and keep emergency numbers saved.

07

June-September is the peak season, roads are open, weather is stable (10-25Β°C in Leh), and Pangong Tso is at its most vibrant blue. June and July have dramatic snowy passes and flowing rivers. August-September sees full flowering valleys and festive monasteries. October offers golden landscapes and far fewer tourists. Winter (Nov-Feb) is for seasoned adventurers, sub-zero temperatures but extraordinary silence and snow-dusted monasteries.

08

Yes, every Tripsiana Ladakh package is fully customisable. You can adjust trip duration, accommodation category, specific places to include (Tso Moriri, Zanskar, Hanle Dark Sky Reserve), departure city, group size, and dates. Click "Enquire Now" on any package, share your preferences, and we'll send a tailored itinerary and quote within a few hours.

09

To plan a Leh Ladakh trip, start by choosing the best time (May to September), book flights to Leh, and ensure acclimatization to avoid altitude sickness. Research key attractions, create an itinerary, pack accordingly for varying weather, and choose reliable operators like WanderOn for perfect travel experience.

10

The most suitable Leh Ladakh Tour packages for families are the one that include places like Magnetic Hill, Sangam Point, Nubra Valley, Turtuk village, and Pangong Lake. Coverning these places is easy for all the family members with opportunities to learn unique phenomenon and culture.

11

Pick Ladakh if you want iconic sights β€” Pangong Tso, Nubra's dunes, Khardung La β€” reachable by a short flight to Leh, ideal for a 6–8 day trip. Choose Spiti if you prefer a quieter, budget-friendlier road trip through remote monastery villages, but you'll need 7–9 days by road from Shimla or Manali. Ladakh sits higher (Leh 3,500 m), so acclimatisation matters more.

12

Only postpaid SIM cards work in Ladakh β€” prepaid connections are barred beyond Leh for security reasons. BSNL, Jio and Airtel postpaid have the widest coverage in Leh town; signal is patchy or absent in Nubra, Pangong and remote passes. Carry a postpaid SIM and don't rely on data once you leave Leh.

13

ATMs and card machines are reliable only in Leh town. Beyond Leh β€” Nubra, Pangong, Turtuk and the passes β€” there are almost no ATMs and cards are rarely accepted. Withdraw enough cash in Leh for your whole circuit before heading out.

14

Yes. Royal Enfields and SUVs are widely rented in Leh, and Ladakh is a bucket-list riding destination. Note that Leh-registered vehicles are given priority for local permits, and out-of-state private bikes face restrictions β€” most riders rent locally. You'll still need inner-line permits for Nubra, Pangong and Turtuk, plus a day or two to acclimatise before riding high passes.

15

Indian travellers need an Inner Line Permit and foreign nationals a Protected Area Permit for Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Turtuk and Hanle. Permits are issued online or via the Leh DC office and are usually arranged by your operator. On Tripsiana packages the permits are handled for you β€” just carry a valid photo ID.

16

Spend your first full day in Leh (3,500 m) resting to acclimatise before travelling higher to Nubra or Pangong. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and heavy exertion for the first 48 hours, and ascend gradually. Many travellers consult a doctor about Diamox beforehand. Well-paced itineraries build in an acclimatisation day for exactly this reason.

17

Pack layers even in summer β€” days are warm but nights drop near freezing at Pangong and Nubra. Bring a heavy jacket, thermals, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, lip balm, a reusable water bottle, personal medication and cash. Temperatures swing sharply with altitude, so warm layers matter year-round.

18

Leh stays accessible by air year-round, but most high passes and lakes close under snow from roughly November to April. Winter's signature experience is the Chadar Trek β€” a walk across the frozen Zanskar river, run in January–February. Summer (June–September) remains the main season for the full Nubra–Pangong circuit.

Six friends, eight days, and not a single hiccup. Permits for Pangong and Nubra were arranged in advance, hotels were clean and well located, and the itinerary was paced so we never felt altitude sick. The team clearly knows Ladakh inside out.
