Best Time to Visit Rajasthan: Month-by-Month Guide

Rajasthan is a year-round destination, but timing your trip well makes a big difference in the desert state. The best time to visit Rajasthan is from October to March, when days are warm, evenings are cool and the forts, deserts and lake cities are at their most comfortable. Here's a month-by-month breakdown to help you plan.

Winter (October to March) — the best season

This is peak season, and for good reason. Daytime temperatures sit at a pleasant 20–28°C, perfect for exploring forts, city palaces and the Thar Desert without the punishing heat. Desert nights get genuinely cold (sometimes near freezing in Jaisalmer in December–January), so pack layers. This is the ideal window for a camel safari, a Jaisalmer desert camp, or a slow itinerary through Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur.

Festival tip: The Pushkar Camel Fair (November) and the Jaisalmer Desert Festival (February) fall in this window and are unforgettable — but book well ahead, as towns fill up fast.

Summer (April to June) — hot but cheap

Rajasthan summers are fierce, with temperatures regularly crossing 40°C and touching 45°C+ in the desert. Sightseeing is tough by midday. The upside: far fewer crowds and the lowest hotel prices of the year, including deals on heritage palace-hotels. If you must travel in summer, base yourself in the relatively cooler hill station of Mount Abu or the lake city of Udaipur, and plan sightseeing for early morning and evening.

Monsoon (July to September) — green and dramatic

The monsoon brings modest but welcome rain. Rajasthan turns unexpectedly green, the lakes of Udaipur fill up, and the landscape around Kumbhalgarh and Mount Abu looks its best. Humidity rises and some desert activities are limited, but it's a photogenic, low-crowd, good-value time to visit the southern and eastern parts of the state.
